Dr. Curt Matthews understands the importance of specialized patient care. "At Carolina Urology Center, patients can feel comfortable with their primary urologist and know that if they need something specific, we're going to get the patient to the physician with the greatest experience. They're going to get the best of care."
Dr. Matthews' first interest was in obstetrics and surgery, and he served as an extern in labor and delivery at Crump Women's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. When he decided to become a urologist, this background led to an interest in female urology and incontinence. He performs reconstructive procedures resulting from gynecological injuries and handles other difficult cases for women. Dr. Matthews also initiated the percutaneous stone removal program at Carolina Urology Center. This minimally invasive procedure removes stones directly from the kidney through small incisions in the patient's side, resulting in reduced hospital stays.
Dr. Matthews has practiced at Carolina Urology Center since 1991. He is a graduate of the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee-Memphis and he also completed his residency in urology at the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Matthews is active in the community through his involvement with Young Life, a non-denominational Christian organization for teens. He and his wife both serve on the Young Life committee for York County and he was instrumental in the development of the annual Young Life golf tournament.
Special Interests: Percutaneous stone removal, female urology, hand assisted laparoscopic surgery of the kidney, impotence.
