Every day, Dr. Chris Magura provides patients with the latest treatments in a state-of-the-art facility. But in 1999, he witnessed a very different side of medicine while on a mission trip to Honduras. "People would walk all night long and wait on a porch for hours to come in for an exam that only took five minutes or less," he remembers, "but they were extremely appreciative." This fulfilling experience contributes to Dr. Magura's care and concern for patients at Carolina Urology Center.
Dr. Magura received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky and completed his internship at the Medical College of Virginia. He then moved to Charleston, South Carolina for his residency in urology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Since his arrival in Rock Hill in 1982, he has served as the chairman of the surgery department at Piedmont Medical Center and is a past president of the South Carolina Urological Association.
Dr. Magura has trained with several experts in the field of male sexual dysfunction, and he provides consultations on conservative treatments, such as medical management, as well as surgical options for these conditions. He also treats female urologic issues such as urinary incontinence, overactive bladder and interstitial cystitis, stone disease and urologic cancers.
Community involvement is important to Dr. Magura. He speaks to many church and civic groups on topics relating to urology, including education and screening for prostate cancer. He also participates in a wide variety of activities outside of medicine, including sailing, tennis and snow skiing.
